Queer families and allies deserve a reliable platform to discover affirming camps for their children. Jennifer Boudrye, Founder of Queer Camp Fair and a parent to LGBTQ+ individuals, leverages her diverse background to support and advocate for enthusiastic, affirming allies through her company, Parent With Care.

Parents she works with started asking for referrals and resources to find camps for their kids.

We looked (and looked – putting our certified librarian skills to work!) and couldn’t find anything that fit the need, so we created it!

How do we know that the camps listed on Queer Camp Fair are LGBTQ+ Affirming Camps?

Each camp listed on Queer Camp Fair has been vetted and has agreed to the following statement:

“Our camp is committed to providing a safe, affirming, and inclusive environment for all campers and staff regardless of gender or sexual identity or expression. We encourage campers and staff to be and express themselves as their authentic selves without fear of retribution, discrimination, or harm.”

Additionally, we ask that they check all that apply and we are offering training for those camps who are not able to check all of the below:

  • My camp has a written non-discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation.
  • My camp has a written non-discrimination policy that includes gender identity and/or expression.
  • My camp has clear and published LGBTQ+ inclusion policies including:
    • bunk/cabin assignments
    • shower/bathroom use
    • name & pronoun use
  • My camp provides/participates in LGBTQ+ inclusion training for all staff*
  • My camp’s anti-bullying training and/or materials address anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment.
  • My camp has staff, leaders, or board members who are out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer.
  • My camp provides LGBTQ+ inclusion information and/or resources to our camp families
  • We have a written non-discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation.
  • Our staff has received training on LGBTQ inclusion.

Before you decide which camp your child will attend, we encourage you ask questions of the camp director and staff to ensure that the camp is the right fit for your child.

Not sure what to ask? We have a blog for that
